Hurrah, I’m on time with my Siblings project post this month! I think this may actually be the first time ever… The secret to my success? I started trying to take the photos a couple of weeks ago. Which was lucky, because again we had a few failed attempts. I’ve put a few of the outtakes on my Instagram if you want to see what happens 90% of the times I try and take pictures of the three of them together. It’s not that I want them posed, I much prefer natural pictures anyway, it’s just that most of the time it’s hard to even get them all in the same shot.
Greta is the clown of the group, so I can always count on her to do something completely ridiculous like lick her brother’s face or fall over backwards to try and get a laugh. Or, one of her favourite tricks is to sit down where I’ve asked her to next to her brother and sister, only to jump up again as soon as I pick the camera up. At least it gets everyone laughing (except me of course after the 15th time).
Mabel will at least humour me and go along with sitting still for a while, but if she’s annoyed because she’d much rather be playing with her dolls or going down the slide or whatever, it will be written all over her face. Mabel is not one who likes to be told what to do, she’s definitely a leader, not a follower.
Ernie bless him is the easiest of the group. Unless he’s hungry or tired, he’s more than happy to sit with his sisters and be entertained and I’ve never known a baby that is so easy to get a smile out of.
So this month we finally had success when we gave them some dandelions to blow while we were out for a walk. Such a simple activity, but something that they all enjoy and can do together (well Ernie can watch). Still not the best photos in the world (although possibly the best ones yet), but it doesn’t matter. It’s not about perfection, it’s about capturing these three together as a unit, as they are at this moment in time. And that’s something that honestly I think I would rarely do if it wasn’t for having this blog and joining in with the siblings project.
