I love an awards ceremony, a contest, a tournament, a game of naughts and crosses…. Basically anything with an even slightly competitive element, I’m all over it. I’m not mad keen on winning though if I’m honest with you, because I’m awkward with praise and recognition when it’s directed at me. I’m much more all about the self-deprecation. But I love the build up, cheering other people on, the anticipation to see who wins, all that good stuff. So imagine my excitement when I found out that there is such a thing as the parent blogger award season!!
If this is all news to you, basically everyone goes mad tweeting and facebooking and writing posts asking for nominations and suggesting who to nominate in all the different categories. There’s long lists and short lists and even shorter short lists and finalists and there are even cute little badges for your blog and everything, it is right up my street! Even better for me, because my blog is less than three months old, I can’t enter myself (stand down Mum and your 15 email accounts). I was a little bit sad about this to begin with, but then I realised it’s the perfect way to experience my first awards season as a blogger, all of the fun with none of the cringe factor of asking people to vote for you.
I still haven’t done my nominations so I don’t know exactly who I’m voting for in each category, I need to sit down and decide soon. If you haven’t nominated yet either, you definitely should. I’ve had two tweets today to say I’ve received a nomination (even though I’m not allowed, someone’s obviously an anarchist!) and I’ve got to say, it is kind of cool. It’s like an anonymous cyber high five, and who doesn’t want one of those?
So I started writing this as an excuse to do a little shout out to some of my favourite blogs, just incase you haven’t discovered them yet and you need some ideas for who to nominate. But, then I realised that I couldn’t possibly include all of the amazing bloggers out there, to do that would take me all year. I don’t want to leave anyone out (basically I’m a people pleasing wimp), so I’ll just say that there are hundreds of fabulous parenting blogs, and there’s literally something for everyone out there.
I’m fairly new to reading blogs (as well as writing them) and I’m still discovering what exactly it is that keeps me checking back with certain ones, eagerly awaiting a new post. I think my favourite blogs are the one’s where I feel a connection to the blogger, maybe they have similar age children to mine, or a parenting style I admire, maybe we share the same sense of humour and they make me laugh, whatever it is, if I see something of myself in them, I’m much more likely to follow them. Apart from that I’m not sure, what do you think makes a good blog?
The good thing is there are two awards going on at the moment, the MADs from TOTS 100 and the BiBS from Britmums, and they both have loads of categories so you can nominate all your favourites. So go on, click the links and make some bloggers smile.
